Course Overview

This is a general awareness course for employees and employers covering all aspects of ladder safety. The course is designed to satisfy the training and awareness requirements of relevant legislation and regulations including the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. It also meets the requirements of CHAS, SafeContractor, ConstructionLline, Exor and other SSIP registrations plus HSE safety training requirements.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand what constitutes work at height and recognise the associated hazards and risks.
  • Identify the common causes of falls and falling objects and understand their potential consequences.
  • Understand the requirements of the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and associated legal duties.
  • Recognise the roles and responsibilities of employers, employees, contractors, and duty holders.
  • Apply the hierarchy of control to eliminate, reduce, and manage work at height risks.
  • Identify situations where work at height can be avoided and implement safer alternative methods.
  • Understand how to prevent falls through effective planning, supervision, equipment selection, and safe systems of work.
  • Recognise the importance of inspecting and maintaining work at height equipment.
  • Understand the role of fall prevention, fall restraint, and fall arrest systems in reducing risk.
  • Recognise the importance of emergency procedures, rescue planning, and minimising the consequences of a fall.

FAQ's

Previously there used to be a fixed distance however, this has now changed to "from any height of which you could fall" 

Access Equipment: This is what you use to get to and from the place where you need to work.

Working Platform: The surface where you actually stand to carry out the job. For example, a fully boarded scaffold deck orthe basket of a scissor lift.

Everyone has a role. Employers must ensure all equipment (like scaffolding or harnesses) is regularly inspected by a competent person. However, employees/advisors must also perform a quick pre-use check before every single use to spot any obvious defects or damage.
