Mobile Tower training helps delegates understand the hazards linked to falls from height, tower overturning, poor assembly, missing components, unstable ground, adverse weather, and unsafe working practices. The course also explains the importance of following manufacturer instructions, using the correct components, checking tower stability, and ensuring inspections are completed by a competent person.


By completing this training, delegates gain the knowledge needed to use mobile towers more safely and recognise when work should not continue. This helps reduce accidents, protect workers and others on site, and support compliance with work at height legislation.

  • Recognise the main hazards and risks linked to mobile towers, including falls, overturning, missing guardrails, incorrect assembly, and misuse.
  • Understand the legal duties relating to mobile towers, including the Work at Height Regulations 2005, PUWER, MHSWR, and the Health and Safety at Work Act.
  • Explain why mobile towers must be planned, selected, erected, used, moved, and inspected by trained and competent people.Identify what must be considered before selecting a mobile tower, including the task, location, height, ground conditions, space, access, and manufacturer instructions.
  • Understand the importance of having the correct components before erecting a tower.
  • Identify key tower components, including frames, braces, platforms, guardrails, toe boards, castors, adjustable legs, and outriggers.
  • Understand safe erection and dismantling methods, including Advance Guardrail and Through the Trap methods.
  • Recognise the importance of tower stability, including firm level ground, locked castors, outriggers, correct height limits, and manufacturer guidance.
  • Understand safe use of mobile towers, including avoiding strong winds, not using ladders on towers, not using damaged components, and not moving towers with people or materials on them.
  • Explain how weather and ground conditions can affect the safe use of a mobile tower.
  • Understand when mobile towers must be inspected, including after assembly, before use, after alteration, after adverse weather, and at intervals not exceeding 7 days where required.
  • Recognise user responsibilities, including following manufacturer instructions, not interfering with safety equipment, and not misusing the tower.
  • Identify unsafe tower conditions and know when work should stop.

Anyone in an organisation, who assembles, alters, dismantles, moves, inspects, and most importantly uses alloy or fibreglass mobile access towers in the workplace. This not only includes construction sites but all workplaces, such as schools, offices, and factories both internally and externally

  • Understand and interpret the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Understand the procedure for checking component items.
  • Show an awareness of the hazards and risks involved in using and moving towers.
  • Ensure a safe means of access is maintained.
  • Ensure stability of mobile tower structures.
  • Calculate the height to base ratios for all situations, to enable safe use at all times with due regard to health and safety.
  • Understand and ensure safe working loads are not exceeded.
  • Display understanding of erection, moving and dismantling operations.
